LTL Freight Broker

Move Your Products Faster and Smarter with a LTL Freight Broker

You don’t need a full truckload to get your products out the door.

Sheer Will Optimize Your LTL Freight With Our LTL Freight Broker Services

It’s an issue that many shippers face: you have more than six pallets but less than a full truckload. Sometimes, these shipments need to ship to different customers. Full truckload carriers can help, but the shipping costs are usually more than you are willing to accept. Where you see a problem, Sheer Logistics sees an opportunity.

We leverage our large network of carriers to find the right match and get your freight where it needs to go. Our team optimizes your load to give you the flexibility, cost effectiveness, and efficiency of a full-load option. Less than truckload shipping (LTL) requires technology, communication, proven techniques, and a 3PL provider you can trust.

Sheer Logistics provides a clear vision that enhances your transportation management. Our goal is to be your trusted supply chain management and logistics partner. Learn more about us or our leadership team and get to know Sheer.

We’re experts at simplifying the LTL freight process. Through our LTL freight broker services, we make sure you can make the right logistics decisions for your business.

What Is LTL Freight Shipping and When Should You Use It?

LTL shipping requires more care and attention than a full truckload; while it reduces costs for shippers, it’s important to know exactly when to use it. LTL freight works best for cargo that:

  • Weighs 150 pounds or more
  • Is too large to parcel (take to the post office) but smaller than a truckload
  • Is palletized or crated
  • Is a fraction of the cost of a full truckload
  • Has flexible delivery times
  • Can have longer transit times than full truckload shipments

Sheer has established relationships with top carriers, which gives us the ability to ship anything anywhere it needs to go.

FAQ

Freight companies specialize in the transportation of goods and materials by land, air, sea, or rail. Some freight companies also provide services such as warehousing, customs brokerage, shipment tracking and supply chain management.

LTL freight brokers are intermediaries that work with shippers and LTL carriers to facilitate the transportation of shipments that do not require a full truck.

If your LTL shipment is damaged or lost, you should act quickly and follow these steps:
  1.  Inspect the shipment and document loss and/or damages. If the damage is extensive, refuse the shipment.
  2.  Report the loss and/or damage to the carrier. Retain the damaged freight until the issue is resolved.
  3.  File a freight claim with the carrier, including all necessary documentation such as a copy of Bill of Lading (BOL), the delivery receipt, and photos of the damage.
  4.  If you used a freight broker, contact the broker for assistance navigating the claims process.
  5.  Follow up and track the progress of the claim.

LTL freight classes are determined by the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system. Freight class is determined by four main factors: density, stowability, handling, and liability. While you can use freight class calculators and other resources to determine your freight class, consider consulting with your freight broker or LTL carrier to ensure your shipment is properly classified.
